…For Tomorrow We Die

When our lives are engulfed in sin, especially with the overflow of alcohol,  we don’t actually wake up the next morning, we come-to; as in, we passed out the night before and, therefore, it’s not so much an awakening as an arising. The body feels as if it has been beat with a stick, mind is clouded, heart aches and then comes our best friend – Mr Lonely. The loneliness sets up just as our eyes open and we catch a glimpse of a new day or is it a new evening or perhaps mid-day. When you “come-to” it’s all the same and usually a shock to the body and mind.

It doesn’t have to be this way, but it-is-what-it-is and the boat keeps sailing.

Failing to get off at the next port-o-call we “come-to” again and again and again until we reach, what we believe is, the point of no return.

Most of us are allowed to hit rock bottom, challenge God and be thrown to the floor before we realize that God loves us, we are not alone and there is another way. Sin is not the way we are to live. Sin is a transgression towards God, a separation from God, we can not avoid that, we can only do our best not to get swept away by it and accept it as the way our lives are suppose to be run. It is only when we awaken, truly awaken, that we see the Way, the Truth and the Life that is Jesus Christ – life that doesn’t have to be dictated by sin. If we choose to live a life of sin, well, there’s a response for that as well. Probably not the response most would choose, but it is the response that is chosen.

As the party lights go up, the daily comatose sets in and life is washed away, those living the life know it is wrong, know it is not the path and know that is nothing more than a shield from the pain. The problem is, most have been trained to avoid seeking, asking and knocking. So – “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” and when death comes…

Isiah 22 NKJV

1The burden against the Valley of Vision.
What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops,
2You who are full of noise,
A tumultuous city, a joyous city?
Your slain men are not slain with the sword,
Nor dead in battle.
3All your rulers have fled together;
They are captured by the archers.
All who are found in you are bound together;
They have fled from afar.
4Therefore I said, “Look away from me,
I will weep bitterly;
Do not labor to comfort me
Because of the plundering of the daughter of my people.”
5For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity
By the Lord God of hosts
In the Valley of Vision—
Breaking down the walls
And of crying to the mountain.
6Elam bore the quiver
With chariots of men and horsemen,
And Kir uncovered the shield.
7It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys
Shall be full of chariots,
And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.
8He removed the protection of Judah.
You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest;
9You also saw the damage to the city of David,
That it was great;
And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
10You numbered the houses of Jerusalem,
And the houses you broke down
To fortify the wall.
11You also made a reservoir between the two walls
For the water of the old pool.
But you did not look to its Maker,
Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.
12And in that day the Lord God of hosts
Called for weeping and for mourning,
For baldness and for girding with sackcloth.
13But instead, joy and gladness,
Slaying oxen and killing sheep,
Eating meat and drinking wine:
“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
14Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts,
“Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you,
Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts.
